Coral bleaching sweeps the globe, transforming reefs from dynamic wonderlands into dead wastelands. These invaluable ecosystems become ivory skeletons, turning the Ocean barren & silent.

Coral reefs are the nurseries of the Ocean. They support a staggering 25% of the Oceans marine life, even though they cover less than 1% of the Ocean floor. But the most terrifying statistic is that we have lost almost 20% of the coral reefs in the last 2 decades. Scientists predict that by 2050 coral reefs could be gone.

As we lose coral reefs, fish stocks collapse, the whole food chain of the Oceans ecosystem brakes and all organisms in the Ocean become drastically effected. There are also catastrophic effects to costal communities whose rely on the reefs for food, protection and tourism.

This is the reality we live in, it’s no longer about when, but if we can act fast enough to save what coral reefs are left.

The Team

We are 3 fabulous friends whose one true love is the ocean.

In 2005 Jocelyn and Nell leapt into the Red Sea, igniting their insatiable love for diving. They dived when ever they could together, then finished school and went on to study design. Before long the need to escape from mundane desk jobs drove Jocelyn halfway around the world to Gili Air Island in Indonesia where she met Sandra. Sandra and Jocelyn quickly became best dive buddies and scuba instructors, photographing, painting and inspiring new generations of divers with their passion.

During COVID, we have been able to accelerate our creative passions, whilst sadly making fewer bubbles than we would like. Ivory Ocean was born to fill our days with joy and we hope yours too.

Every quarter we pick a formidable charity to work with; we learn more about the pressures the marine ecosystem is facing and what we and you can do to help. In return we talk about their great work and we produce bespoke artwork inspired by their current projects. Then we sell it to you wonderful people and share our profits with them!

a bit more about Jocelyn…

Jossie.jpg

She is more fish than human, and is naturally happiest in the water. Having spent most of her childhood on a boat along the East African Coast, swimming and snorkelling in and amongst the waves. She took to diving like a "whale shark to water" and is now an enthusiastic and committed scuba diving instructor. When she is not blowing bubbles, she is on the beach teaching the next generation about shark conservation. During the surface intervals between dives, she fills her time with painting, photography and illustration for our epic Ivory Ocean store.

A sandy bottom means a happy Sandra! She will spend hours searching for the perfect Nudibranch, while Mantas soar past her. Her ability to find and photograph micro marine life at dusk is epic, and her love for nudies is matched only by her love for whales. Apart from being a fantastic dive instructor and underwater photographer for Ivory Ocean, when Sandra is not beneath the waves, she is dreaming about using social media to educate everyone on marine conservation.

and a bit more about Nell…

If she is not swimming, she has a paintbrush in her hand.  It has been so since the age of 7, when she painted the first of over 200 dolphins on the walls of her bedroom!! While she wishes she was a dolphin herself, her creative passions blew even her marine dreams off course. Her constant sketching led her to be a product designer for a neuro wellness company and as a volunteer diver for a marine conservation charity, also supporting them as an illustrator. Now in every free moment, (when she is not swimming or diving), she is getting covered in clay and paint, making handcrafted products for Ivory Ocean
